I am not sure if Malmuth implies this but your comments make some sense. I think what he is refering to is that in a low stakes game you often are up against players who will call with anything. A big pair, for example, typically does not do too well against a lot of opponents. A big pair has to improve considerably if you are going to play it against more than 2 players. If you knew that when you bet your pair of kings, for example, 6 other players would call it probably would have been wiser not to have bet at all. |
In a big game when you bet you typically get some respect and people fold. In a little game, anything can happen, including having players call you even though they may think you have a big pair. The call is probably wrong if they indeed knew you have the big pair. |
What you should get out of this discussion is that you constantly have to adjust your play based on the skill of other players and the type of game you are in (loose, tight, aggressive, etc.). |
