You are more correct than you know.

 

There is s whole area in Blackjack known as Optimal Betting Theory.

 

Its all about balancing the optimal bet (Bankroll*EV/SD)) with the inevitable losses in negative counts and the maximal bets for cover purposes.

 

Karel Janecek has an excellent zimulator called SBA which can be fed into an Optimal Betting Generator.

 

John Austin has produced a tabular simulator for most common systems.

 

I personally supply optimal betting spreads for Brh-0, I and II.
