winnings are *not* exempt.
i sent an email to gaming last year because a plastic fascia above a bank of video poker machines had stated "$1199", "tax free". perhaps unknown to you, all gaming wins are subject to tax. to state or imply that any gaming win was either "tax free" or "exempt" is patently false. that last time i visited that same bank of video poker machines, the fascia had been replaced. it now states the same royal payout amount but no longer has a reference to any tax.
to use this or any forum to suggest avoidance of due taxes is akin to structuring advice. as i recall, a couple of years ago, a major strip joint was heavily fined since one host advised a winning, rated player, as to the "closing" time of the licensee. that obviously so that the player could straddle two 10K reporting periods.
