The Gamblers Choice; Volume 1 Issue #8

This will be the last issue of "The Gamblers Choice" we have decided to change to name to "Casino Talk" it seems much more appropriate, hope you agree. So goodbye to "Gamblers Choice" hello "Casino talk" our next issue.

Since I've decided to keep these letters shorter I find I have more time to prepare them. Hopefully we will be sending them out more often than once or twice a month that is, of course if you can take it.

Slot Talk

*********

Slots provide casinos with well over 50% of their income their popularity cannot be underestimated. It is for this reason that I have included this feature I call slot talk. Many books have been written on slots, how to beat them, where the loose slots are placed and many varied elements of slot play. I have played slots for over 30 years and have seen them evolve from the one armed mechanical bandit to the slick electronic devices that now cover the floors of casinos everywhere. What makes them so popular? I have my own theories about this as I am sure you have too. Slots provide an opportunity to just go one on one with a gambling device, no dealers, no wheels, nothing to decide, just insert the coins and press the spin button or pull the handle.

It seems like a mindless thing to do but the kick one enjoys from getting a good hit is well worth the time and money spent. I've spent many hours feeding the slots and probably have "spent" many dollars in the process but the rush I get from hitting a jackpot is a feeling understood only by fellow slot players. One thing I have learned about playing slots over the years is that slot playing is and should be enjoyable entertainment.

Never play with money you are going to miss and this applies particularly to the rent or mortgage money. This is not a good thing. Know where you stand at all times, if you want to play carelessly and just bang away at the slots choose the nickles, you can have all the action of reels spinning and bells ringing but at little cost. Remember slots are for having fun and if you win it's a bonus......Good Luck.

The Internet and Gambling.

*************************

Gambling on the Internet has almost come of age, I say almost because there is still some reluctance on the part of many players to give up their credit card number to some unfamiliar Web site online casino. Some tips for you who are thinking of online gambling but feel somewhat unsure. Find out as much as you can about online gambling before you give up your money and give out your credit card number. I can tell you from first hand experience that many of the online offshore operators are A1 but there are some who are not. Like any other purchase it is your responsibility to be sure you are dealing with people of integrity. Know who you are dealing with before jumping in.

If we can be of any assistance in your search for reliable operators please let us know.

Foxwood Casino

**************

A subscriber asked me to include something on Foxwoods in one of my letters so here goes. Foxwoods is reportedly the largest Casino in the world. Operated by the Mashantucket Pequot Tribe, they employ some 10,000 people to provide for their ever growing number of guests. They feature all the traditional casino games and gross some 1.5 million per day on slot machine play alone. Quite an impressive and staggering number. Just shows how much money people have to spend on gambling. Foxwood had planned to operate on limited hours when thru first opened their doors with over 1,500 people providing the services required to operate a casino the size of Foxwoods. It wasn't long before they realized what they had and decided to go with a 24 hour operation. Since they started up the work force has increase to some 10,000, employees and has become the largest and, reportedly the most profitable casino anywhere on the planet.

I wish to thank Mark Pilarski for much of the information on Foxwoods.

A comment on gambling systems

*****************************

It is my opinion that gambling systems are more hype than substance. It is true that card counting in Black jack can give you a slight edge over the house but unless you're prepared to work like hell to learn to be a good counter you can forget about it. The system of doubling up on Roulette may be of some value in the short haul but in the long run it will get you into deep trouble. Whether you start with a dollar and double till you win or five dollars the end result is the same. You are risking a lot of money to recoup your original bet. There are ways of playing that will allow you to enjoy your money longer and if you are a strict disciplinarian you may even come out a winner but again they take a lot of practice and hard work to perfect and it really takes the fun out of gambling. Play to have fun and if you win it's a bonus.
