There is another thing about the Uston APC. It was originally known as Griffin-3, because according to Peter Griffin it had the highest playing efficiency of all level 3 counts. Richard Canfield referred to it as the "Wonderful Wonderful" system in his comparison of count systems(yes he was being sarcastic). It wasn't until Uston came along and wanted a multi-level count with his name on it that this system was actually presented in a blackjack book. I have come up with 2 alternatives and a reader of this page has come up with another that moves the point off the 8 to one of the other small cards. This increases the BC with only a slight penalty to the playing efficiency to give an overall system that is slightly stronger. T-Hop 1 Plus and Hi-Opt II are both equal in strength to Uston APC, and Omega II is a little bit better. Maybe someday after taking some time off I will return and do the simulations for the higher level counts just to be complete, but I just can't sincerely recommend them if I use a lower level system myself. Finally, for me at least, secondary counts are easier than ace side counts becuase once you have counted the cards you are basically done and don't have to look at the discard tray to do the adjustment, although there is an alternative method based on the unbalanced true count that I plan to experiment with myself.
