I'm an Uston APC player. And I have the same concerns that you have about the indices and as T-Hopper pointed out the BC and counting the 8 as +1. I'm going to order SBA Advanced edition from Conjelco tonight.
My 1st blackjack book was MDB. Unknowingly, I learned the system including the side count of aces. I don't want to spend the time to learn a new system. So I'll stay with Uston APC for now. I think Uston APC is fine for SD & DD but not sure about keeping track of aces in the 6 deck shoe.
I've doubled my bank of 400 units twice in 67 hours in single deck play. I'm able to play the Uston APC comfortably because I have a lot of training and experience behind me. I recommed Casino Verite for memorizing the MDB matrices.
