Betting efficiency can only approach the correlation as a limit, which would be the case with 100% correlation. The lower the correlation, the more efficiency is lost. For example, with a correlation of .50, the efficiency might be 10% or less., while with a correlation of .99 the efficiency might be .97. See The Theory of Blackjack by Peter Griffin for a detailed explanation of how this works. It is possible to use the formulas provided in that book to figure a very close approximation of the gain for any card counting system for betting or any other strategy.
