Re: KO Insurance

Am I correct that taking insurance at +3 is a defensive move designed to make a push out of a potential loss to the dealer's BJ?

No, you are incorrect. Insurance is a seperate bet that has nothing to do with your original bet. It pays 2:1, so you want to make the bet when your odds are better than 2:1 that the dealer has a blackjack. Card counting tells you when the odds have shifted to your favor for that bet.

It is the most important single strategy deviation a card counter can make. This is partly due to the fact that it comes up relatively often, since you can expect the dealer to have an ace once every thirteen hands or so. It is also important because it is one of the few times you will be offered a bet in the casino where the odds are in your favor if you know when to make the bet!
