1) Higher risk of ruin, but probably no significant difference in fluctuations.

2) There are quite a few plays that the ace side count can be used for. The only comprehensive sources I know of for these adjustments are out of print. However I will address this question in the Card Counter's System Sourcebook series. All of the counts listed in the power ratings will be covered completely, including ace side count adjustments. Some of the plays include counting the ace as negative when doubling on 9 or 10, or counting in as positive for insurance and most soft doubles.
