Splitting Aces
Posted by Foreigner on 2 January 2000, at 1:12 a.m.
Scenario: 5 Decks - NH - DAS except Dealer having an Ace.
Surrender any two cards except Dealer showing an Ace. Doubling any
first two cards. Penetration 65/70%. I use K-O system. Doubts are:
Having 2 one can slipt but not resplit. Then receives only one card
for each Ace and that's all. I asked for advice from a classified
author who said Aces, even under these rules, might be always
splitted unless Dealer showing an Ace too.Of course, I accepted and
use to play like that. However sometimes I receive another Ace and a
2, 3, 4, or 5. Having the Dealer 8, 9 or 10 I can hardly win these two
spots. I lose both.If I didn't split (in case of a losing hand) I
would lose only one spot. But now let's consider Dealer having 4, 5 or
6 and my splits resulted as above. I run bigger risk splitting than
doubling my 2 Aces. Answer to this question can be long but also can
be short.
Long if count number is to be taken in consideration. Short if
splitting Aces must be seen as something unquestionable,a "tabu".Under
these rules, of course, I vote for doubling 2 Aces no matter the
count, if Dealer has 3,4,5 or 6. Not splitting having the Dealer 8,9 or 10, in low count. Splitting in high counts.
As experts know better than I (newcomer counter)your advice will
oblige.
