Last Question - for this week!
Posted by New Counter on 26 July 2001, at 8:18 p.m.
I have now read 5 books on the game. All of them say that a pair of 8s should ALWAYS be split regardless of what the dealer is showing.
This is counterintuitive to me. It seems that splitting 8s against a dealer 10 or Ace is tantamount to making two losing hands out of one.
Can someone clarify if I should ALWAYS split 8s and if so, why?
I understand that the answer might lay in the possibility of coming up with a double down hand, but this seems an awful longshot against the dealer 10 or Ace.
Thanks again.
