I look for shoe games with good penetration and good rules. I will walk around and back count for a few hands. I enter only if the true count is +1 or better. The amount of money in front of other players I could care less about. I don't put any merit into whether a game has been hot or cold in the past 30 minutes or so. I don't care if I am playing with a moron next to me or a half decent player. I prefer to play "under" someone who is betting more than me.

In single and double deck I just sit down at any game and play. In single deck (and to a lesser extent in double deck) I am very concious of the "number" of other players at the table. I want to play head up or with a maximum of 1 or 2 other players in these games. In shoe games it doesn't matter as much, although I will make more per hour with less players at the table because I will be getting more hands in per hour.

If I am not attempting to track the shuffle I will leave on a true count of -1. I don't play 6-deck shoes with more than 1.5 decks cut off and 8-decks with more than 2 decks cut off.

That's pretty much it. On top of that add a lot of discipline and proper bankroll management (bet sizing) with a valid card counting system. My bet spread in shoe games is at least 10 to 1. In single and double deck it is about 5 to 1 (if I can get away with it).

If you don't count you don't have any chance to beat this game. Sure, you will have your wins now and then but the casino will get a good portion of your bankroll in the long run.
