According to the book, after ten counting became popular (cutting into profits) the casinos began different forms of shuffling and picking up cards so as to clump the tens and the low cards. This would have the effect of producing a series of very high count hands (with poor cards) followed by a string tens for everyone, including the dealer, causing pushes/losses and burning out the clump of tens. This supposedly will adversley affect most counting strategies based on counting tens.
