Controversy

Probably the biggest controversy in blackjack is between clumpers and counters. On bj21, for example, clumping posts are not busted to my knowledge (I am not a post buster myself). They are belittled. One does not see Doug Grant type posts which are simply repetitive and available elsewhere on the internet because these posts and similar ones have been busted often and quickly enough to discourage their posting. The same has been done to some extent on personal attacks. They remain but there are not a whole lot.
It seems to me a rational discussion of any topic is better served by looking at alternatives as opposed to sarcastic remarks about the status quo. The alternatives are clear:
1) No policing whatsoever. RGB history shows this approach not feasible.
2) Moderation which takes a lot of effort by a number of people and simply amounts to premature busting.
3) The site owner removes objectionable posts. This depends on the site owner's available time. bj21 has gotten huge and has been spammed and purposely disrupted.
4) If the site owner does not have the time to properly police the site, he can select hobbyists to help him under his own guidelines.
I have discerned little perfection in this world. Do the postbusters on bj21 sometimes make mistakes? Certainly. While Don S. is at times acerbic and should sometimes (IMO) be busted when he is not, he gets busted. Busted posts are archived in one place rather than being left to clutter the boards. And sometimes posts are, again in my opinion, busted which should not have been busted. There have been times I thought the postbusters protected Don and some of the others against criticism more than they should. Don is a grownup who can take care of himself. As I said earlier I have been busted at times and most of the time properly so, again in my opinion. But if the rules include the occasional removal of one of my posts when they really should not have been removed I can live with that. Most everything needs some editing.
That some of the editing might not be always perfect is the way the world operates. The question is whether there is a net gain.
I think so. You think not.
I am leaving it at this.
