For a beginner, one of the most difficult part is to play the way it should be played, and not play the way the other players on your table want you to play. From time memorable, the 'other' players always know how to better play your hand, and I can suggest the following way you can get your own way :
AGGRESIVE WAY - I have actually seen this. The player just turned and faced the 'other' player, and asked him seriously "Is this your money or is it mine ? If I want to give to the casino, that's not your problem, and if you don't like the way I play, there are other tables".
MODERATE WAY - "Oh, really ? I didn't know. You should have told me earlier" ... "How much are you winning ? ... oh, you are NOT winning ?"
SOFT WAY - "Sorry, I really don't know how to play"
I always pretend to think very hard, and if I have to hit my Hard 15 or 16, then I will look around, and point out ON THE TABLE, that there are no small cards, and if there are a lot of small cards on the table, well, I'll say that the small cards are all bunched up and I should hit. Which ever way I will hit, but always have a good excuse to come up with.
I have received comments from dealers like "You are not a good player, but you are very lucky" "You really do not know how to play, but somehow you manage to win, very lucky" "You want to hit on your Hard 15 ? Want to commit suicide ?" and I will always tell them that I have to kill one of my own hands to 'save' the other one. Whatever, you have to remember that most players out there playing BJ will not win, and if you have to follow their ways, you will not win in the long run.
