I like second base because...

...it helps camouflage a little better.
...it allows me to take up more "room" on the table and therefore discourage others from joining.
...it allows me more option to spread to that 2nd or 3rd hand if I want. If I sit at 1st or 3rd, this option may be limited depending on the player next to me.
...can possibly sneak a peek at either adjacent player's cards in a face down game.

Any other reasons? I think Mr. Anderson mentioned some of these in his book.
