it ain't a virus...

the problem is with a parasite that lives in a fresh water snail of the blue nile. skin contact with that water is enough for the microscopic parasite to enter and ultimately invade your liver. i saw the "treatment" at the time. it was an "inline" filter taped to the victim's belly, as attached to a vein pulled out of your stomach. apparently with time, all the critters are filtered out.
we often bathed (and drank out of) the blue nile from southern ethiopia to khartoum.
that was one zer kool hitch from asmara to addis, via the mountain road.
