Many years ago one of my rules was to shift tables when at the start I had 4 straight losing hands.
Since that caused my being inconvenienced too often, I modified that rule. Besides, there are also other factors in consideration.
My present strategy is by placing a limit on the budget and not leave it totally on ONE factor alone- no matter what that factor may be.
Based on my own observations, many times the start is awkward and my budget gets to down to 50% and even less. However, by using some patience and strategy, not only my budget is restored, but a lucky streak comes along and the session is ended with anywhere from 100-150% of profits on the budget. However, the same rules are not always applicable to different AMOUNTS of one's budget.
Blackjack is more a game of strategies of which important ingredients are personal traits such as patience, unemotionalism, flexibility, strategy, and money management. However, the younger the gambler, the greater the obstacles on the road for the exercise of such character traits and greater dependence on systems and their consequences.
I have just returned with modest gains on my last trip that in the old days, I would spurn as adequate profits but then take greater chances and return with substantial losses for my imprudence.
Different levels of experience, different strokes. Knowledge is good. But, there's no substitute for experience.
PS: I experience 6-9 losses in several sessions on every trip. My approach is never to raise my bet until I start winning first! Thus, the loss would be consisting of the min. bets. Yes, 8 losing bets in a row could deplete my session budgey by about 50%. At that point other factors are also considered whether it makes sense to remain at that table.
