The mathematical answer to your first question on staking is that it does not matter. A person who bankrolls themselves low at a table at a stake of only 4 times or so of the minimum bet will leave the table bankrupt more than 50% of the time. But if one simply looks at total overall winnings, they remain the same. Those who stake themselves low merely see more tables than the rest of us.
