Wonderful post. Brings back memories. Yes, I remember walking down to the old SD games at the Cortez. Castaways (probably made more money selling their land than their entire history of operating income.) The old Horseshoe (I was barred while Benny Binion was loudly claiming that he would never bar a counter.) Benny knew full well that counting worked long before his staged (IMHO) showdown with Uston.

Of course you're correct; the game has changed greatly. The detail that you provided is better than I've ever seen. If you don't write a book; and I do; I'll steal every word of it. Just as obviously, physical science does NOT change. I think that the amount of money spent by Americans on 900 astrology lines last year hovered around six billion dollars. (Think about it - six billion dollars spent on random people telling you that you'll meet a tall dark stranger because your star is in the fourth house of yada-yada.) On one hand, it's nice to know that superstitious people still throw their money away in casinos so that positive EV players can still win without severely biting the hand that feeds them. But, as funny as it may be to read the nonsense on pages devoted to non-science; a blush of guilt crosses one's mind.

Best, norm
