Thank's for your post. It was the most instructive read so far. Being a beginner I read this site for info -- though many of the reads are humorous they are usually not very informative.

My story is that at first I learned basic stategy for AC (like the perverbial back of my hand), learned a positive progression (because it was easy), and then began playing the 10 dollar 8 deck tables.

Have been going to AC once a week, for a few months, and have usually won a couple hundred but after playing for several hours. Part of my strategy has been to leave a table if I lost three in a row, or three out of four hands -- this means there has been a lot of heat-causing-table-hopping going on. The "logic" has been that if I'm losing why stick arround; better to start with a new shoe where the count is zero or close (advise I got from a couple of different books, one on progressive bj and the other on gambling in general). Any opions on this?

The last time I played, however, I lost alot, could never catch up. Now I've decided to learn to count because progressive playing does not hold up. As you said, there are just not enough solid winning streaks. Only once did I get my progression up to 50 bucks.

Negative progressions? Must forget it; much too easy to wipe out completely in one play. Have practised at home with computer game (that gives me more winning streaks than any real casino game ever did).

Read a book about the Core System (posted something about it at this site and got some good advise) and have decided against it as well -- from my short experience at AC it is hard to figure HOW the casinos are able to stack the decks in their favor (unless they are removing cards -- eegads we might as well all go home). Have watched for the supposed shuffle tricks, that have read about in core book, but have not seen such. And have gotten some good games from the machine shuffles. Perhaps some one can explain.

Finally, am now teaching myself a simple plus/minus counting system I learned from "Million Dollar Backjack". The best bj book I've read so far. And I learned about it from this site!
